Today I bought a Kohler self-drive lawnmower; the faithful Australian-built Victa with its Briggs and Stratton USA-built engine is still working, but getting rattly and noisy after nearly 40 years.
Although Kohler uses some parts from outside the USA, most of it is built in America.
It has shock-absorbing parts in the engine to reduce noise, and at my age and my son`s who is turning 64 this weekend, we don`t need noise like we did at their concert when the Beatles visited Brisbane.
It` 's too heavy to lift out of the Mazda, so it sits in the car until My son arrives tomorrow.
