Moved to my village nearly 20 years ago. My (now late) wife was having mobility problems, & a bungalow made sense. There were good bus services to the city of Worcester, & a couple of local towns. Since then the public transport has declined. 3 buses a day, to the city, if they turn up. None at weekends.
It does have 2 pubs, also 2 shops - one in the grounds of a pub - & a village club. For a small fee I can get deliveries from a supermarket.
There is also virtually zero crime. Neighbours still look out for each other, a bloke who I have hardly spoken to called the police when he saw someone having a look under the bike covers!
