No one here is more than 20 minutes away from a Walmart any more, and no one uses a Post Office for anything any more (ours were only ever just for mail, not general services like yours are).
People will throw the locally owned shops under the bus to save a nickel at a Walmart, and they don't mind burning gas to drive there 3 times a day.
The big growth in building is in self-storage units. 40 years ago, there was no such thing; people wouldn't have known what to do with them.
Today, they're everywhere. People have bought so many mountainous piles of shite that they have no place to put it all.
In my day, only the wealthy chucked away that kind of money on garbage. Today, people cry poverty while sitting on multiple cars, houses full of electronics, phones, and computers, home delivery service, fast food, and other crap that our parents wouldn't even have recognized, much less cried and moaned that they were "essential" ,..
