Hybrids used to be free tax but not now. If you pay more than 40k for any new car, you also have to pay an extra 560 pounds a year for the first 5 years of its life. Hence, i now buy cars at just under 40k. The Volvo was about 48k but then add another near 3k for road tax.
I had quite a few diesel cars with free tax including a 2 litre Vauxhall and a 1.4 Peugeot but thats all gone.
There is no point in an EV car at all as charging it costs a lot more than petrol unless you charge at home.
