The firework battles in the local common MOD buildings were good with each having 20 bangers in pitch black. How we survived is a mystery. Climbing under the old wooden pier, throwing each other into the docks, running train axled timber carriers down the rail lines, hollowing out timber stacks for a camp and jumping off the giant sand hoppers that were sifting sand. We just jumped from the top into the sand heap. All until we found motorcycles and we then became safe !
We scrambled an old BSA 600 sidevalve around a quarry until the clutch went so dumped it in the quarry. Then a Sunbeam S7 found burnt on the beach and managed to get it running around the docks until we dumped that one. This mate, in 1973 bought a brand new BSA B50 which was nice but later went to riding older Velocettes. The Velo he had his accident on is still in use now.
