The flanges do that, Sir. I also found the carb Tufnol spacer on my AJS had compressed at the bolt holes, so that was no longer flat either!
And if you do the mounting stud nuts up too tight, the flange will not only distort, but so can the body, causing the slide to stick. Please do not ask me how I know this.
