They still do the free burials if no relatives can fund it but quite a process for any survivor being means tested.
Another in Exmouth where the man had no savings or family, he had been the church warden for 30 years until the church no longer needed a warden due to lack of services. Church did step in and pay for the service but cremation was private and no party afterwards. I went to school with that one and he died aged 62 from Cancer. Never married and no children.
