Once upon a time you could go over to France for a weekend on a week end pass.
In about 1982 my wife was able nip over to France to recover me and bike on just a drivers licence.

the odd thing was that the deeper we got into the EU scam the more nonsense I had to put up with. 1977/8I would turn up at Dover, check which one of 3 ships was cheapest or soonest,buy a ticket and get told you got 10mins, hurry up they'll fit you in. Now if you turn up to the tunnel without being pre booked and try to buy ticket with cash you get refused. I keep to the West country now.
