On my recent trip, the guy I was riding with and I tanked up at a Valero station in Evansville, Indiana.

On our way to Abe Lincoln's birthplace, my '09 Stelvio started "cutting off" for up to 3 seconds at a time every few miles.

At the next stop, I told my riding buddy (on a '14 Guzzi Norge) what was happening. He said "My bike has been running strange too; not cutting off, but stumbling and poor power delivery".

We concluded that we had bought bad tanks of gas, with some contaminant in it. We stopped and bought a bottle of gasoline treatment (methyl alcohol which is supposed to combine with water and run it through the system), and a fresh tank of premium gas.

The problem got slowly better, until after the third fill-up, it had gone away completely.

We don't get much bad gas 'round here, but it does happen. Luckily, our fuel management systems on these new bikes handled it; his newer bike handled it in a different way than mine, but we stayed on the road ....
