Geoff, you will probably find it is he that has to apply for the Power of Attorney as he nominates her, and he must be in a suitable mental condition to understand what he is signing up to. A separate one is needed for Financial and Medical matters. Also a Power of Attorney stops upon his demise and the document has to be returned to the issuing office. When she deals with the wishes of his will, if she is nominated as Executor, she may need to get Grant of Probate which will cost and, if the will is properly constructed, probably do nothing extra than the will authorised! Generally, it appears to me, it is the HMRC ( for assessing possibility of Inheritance Tax) or Savings Companies that request this as it will, again probably, put a time delay in them paying out, whilst they place the money in a holding account that pays “sod all” interest. If there are large sums involved my advice would be to seek legal advice in the execution of the Will, especially if she is not dependent on receiving the money. But hopefully this may be some years away yet. Den
