Standing charges are too high but i notice electricity is 4 times the price per kilowatt than gas. Now all new houses have electric heating and no gas so we leave the gas under the North sea for the Swedes to extract.
I would never buy a house with electric heating. Just too expensive to run. Back in the 70s, night storage heating on off peak was cheap enough but they soon killed it off. I was installing 30 heaters a Month back then. The bad news was that i had to build them and they contained asbestos. 4 local electricians later died from this dust. They all worked for the electricity board and the Heatstore brand they used was very toxic. I was building Dimplex which had less asbestos.
These heaters were nasty to have as they put the heat out by convection and the dust also came out of the vents into the houses
