I worked for a short while with a man who had a chipshop in Bamber Bridge as a sideline.
No USA military black or white were seen there.
In the 1960s there was a USA High Commissioner in Liverpool (possibly a slightly more junior person?) who was from the Southern States & was a fierce racist, he almost had a nervous breakdown understanding how there was both racialism (1960's British term) and much more integration in the same city.
the same position applied to bikes and scooters, much more swapping and fun than trouble.
