Largest turn out i have seen in 28 years at 164 entries.
Now, this year, a lot has changed.
Lots of 70s Japanese 2 strokes where previously there were very few. Even an RE5 Suzuki.
No bikes before 1950.
No top quality British bikes at all except just one Velo Viper.
Unusually, there were no BSA Bantams this time.
The bike that won the best bike award arrived very early in a van and put out. The owner got out his show sheet and attached it, won the prize but it was not on the ride at all. This sometimes happens at this event with one year, 3 bikes that did not ride winning prizes and then one bike that was 1 week old won best bike as the judge had no knowledge of bikes at all. This being a classic bike event for pre 79 bikes at that time.
Many riders from previous years were missing presumed deceased but a whole lot of newcomers making the record attendance.
One rider dropped his new heavy bike similar to those giant upright KTM things. It took 3 men to put it back upright.
Good event with a tiny drizzle at the start which did not need plastic clothes. No one seemed to get injured this time and everyone appeared to have gone the 110 miles and returned.
Its a fairly new idea to wheel in non ridden bikes and pay 10 pound to enter the ride but not actually ride the 110 miles just to win the little cup for 1 years.
Looking at the future, it seems 2 strokes will be more popular in the coming years and they were superb builds.
I hope i can still do this for a couple more years but its getting tricky with my feet not working very well. The brain can but the body is failing
