royal mail 48 is not 48hrs , its two to three days after being collected from a post office

two companies here , first one is post office counters , who dont give a toss once you have paid , the second is royal mail , who can only start there delivery clocks after parcels have been handed over by counters

what is happening now is the cliosure of post offices , that had collections multiple times a day to the new parcel shops , very often do not get multiple collections , in fact I have seen packages sat several days awaiting collection
your 9 day, that would include a weekend , in fact it could be 2 weekends

not sticking up for them , but in my opinion the whole RM service is expensive and shite
