I have little time for cars, seeing them as a necessary evil that makes life easier and no more than that. The minimum running costs and max carrying capacity are my interests.

My current C Max 1.8 2009 was quite the find: heated seats and other lovely refinements. It gets minimal servicing, burns a bit of oil but does me very well.

Sadly, the end is drawing nigh, I think. The radio turns on and off all by itself and can only be prevented from doing that by fuse removal. It seems to be the on/off button as if I hold it in it stays off.

Unless anyone has a cure for this, allied to a few other annoyances it might be time to think of a replacement in a similar vein. Camchain rather than belt would be preferred, definitely not wet belt and no electonic ipad thing on the dash.

What would be a decent £3kish car with carrying capacity, cheap to run and service and reliable - as all my old Fords have been?
