Returning from this morning’s breakfast ride I came across a group (swarm?) of about a dozen Vespas & Lambrettas stopped randomly at roadside & on pavement. They pulled out in front of a car without looking behind, and then wobbled along at 20mph completely oblivious to everything. Some had no mirrors, a few had lots, and one had just one usefully mounted on the footboard about 4” off the ground. The few with sensibly placed mirrors had them cunningly adjusted to give a good view of their non-protective riding attire and sod all else. |
Giving them an extra wide berth I overtook as many as I could. This startled them from their reverie and induced even more wobbling around (and very nearly into each other). Then up ahead their leaders suddenly decided to turn right without indicating, except for the one indicating left who missed running into his mate in front by inches. The whole cavalcade had a complete disregard for other traffic and was an exemplary demonstration of how not to ride in a group.....and a self-inflicted accident waiting to happen.
The lot of ‘em deserved a bloody good hiding, but sadly no 17 year old wel’hard rockers were available.
