Hi Stu, |
'Fraid my only "personal experience" is helping others fix theirs ... however, if that still counts ... '79-on.
The Co-op had control of its own destiny (still managed to drive over the precipice eventually), the bikes have the best standard electrical components - 3-phase alternator, a headlamp you can actually see with in the dark, handlebar switches that don't look like they came out of a fairground lucky-dip, electronic ignition as standard. The electrics are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but, as I've had (high-output) 3-phase alternator, headlamp, handlebar switches and original electronic ignition on my T160's for nearly forty years, I know they're the dog's dangly bits and any problems you'll encounter are fixable.
Non-electric spares backup is probably as good as it gets; there's still carp about but that applies to older ones while the good stuff is rarer.
'79-on Tiger still has an Amal Mk.1 carb., Bonnie has Mk.2's; there are improved versions of the Mk.1, current Amal licensee (Burlen) are probably also as good as it gets.
