Dave - similair here in Somerset. It was lashing down with rain all day, and in the evening became very windy.
No signs of any damage at our place, this morning is the complete opposite, lovely sunny and calm morning.
I'll be putting on my "wets" for a spin on the Himalayan this afternoon.Who needs a signature anyway......

I had to drive to Cornwall yesterday to pick up a bike for a friend. Have to say was one of the worse journeys for a long time. Torrential rain and trying to keep the van in a straight line was very difficult with the wind trying to blow me off the road. 540 mile round trip and sure was glad to get back to London. Down at the docks, someone built another wooden restaurant to replace the previous one washed away about 30 years ago. I cannot believe anyone would be so stupid to build it back as the old one was regularly smashed to bits with rough seas. They lost an added conservatory and terrace and some windows. The million pound flats have a lot of very wet luxury cars sitting in the salt water. I moved from the low area when i was just 400 yards from the docks as the sea was already running along the roads to the town back in the 60s. Not normally getting into the houses then though. The flood prevention just completed, will fail as the tide will go around to the area they did not build the wall. Just moved the point that the sea comes in,a bit further along. The brand new watersport centre is now finished. The gardens were laid out with new soil awaiting planting. That soil is now mostly covered by 6 inches of salty sand. That area will become a new sand dune now that walls have been put up. The sand will just pile up against it. Exmouth planners have no idea. I have photos of this area dating back to 1800s showing the various disasters and tidal movements. When they surveyed the new wall, the man they sent was from 200 miles away. he was trying to establish what was behind the Smeaton wall. I have pictures of the construction of the wall showing the backing to be pebbles and cement. I have 15,000 photos of old Exmouth but they never ask. I did show one from 1950 to prove a footpath existed and the new flats had to have the path running through the block as a result. Funny when these were built and i cooked some fish on the beach in front of the balconies. They moaned and i explained it is traditional for the Exmouth born people to cook on the beach here. I get a bit devilish with these Grockles. I lost my boat mooring because of those flats. They told me if i wanted to keep it, i would have to have a full survey of my buried anchor and depths etc. Not easy as my anchor was a BMC Morris Minor engine.

Good on Yer Geoff yes it doesn't need an expert to see all the tidal work s flawed as it just stops at one end.. I did love the old shanty town around the docks enjoyed walking around there often talking to the residents there were some characters.. as I used to come down from Dartmoor to Lethienian Glass on the corner of Victoria St they made glass for clocks and the clock trade so was regular and when in London dealt with them by post gone now.. We're watching the whole "Poldark" series this month, and it makes me awfully glad that I spent a couple weeks in Cornwall walking those coastal trails, exploring those little coves, going down the old mines, and stopping in those little village pubs and pasty houses.
Beautiful part of the world.

I see the brand new Dawlish Sea wall is having trouble after yesterday.. the membrane between the gaps to stop sand and pebbles from damaging the wall is washing away The Engineers are looking into it.. Tonupdave..T.U.D.

Most of the neoprene gap filler in the new Dawlish wall is now gone. apparently it is now a danger to wildlife. I notice a very large shingle beach has appeared down at Orcombe point. The planners were told by a master mariner born in Exmouth, not to alter the breakwaters around Shelly beach or reap the consequences. He was also a Councillor and they laughed at his suggestions that there will be major sand movement. Orcombe point beach is now nearly half a mile out into the sea at low tide. Great for the kids to play in though.
