Anyone going back to work tomorrow?

Not being lucky enough to be retired it will be back to work for me tomorrow, taking that 20 or so feet walk to the cabin in the garden that I have not been in since Dec 2020.

Now what were my passwords............

Who needs a signature anyway......

Haven't been back to work since December 8th ....

.... 2014.

There were some stories in my newspaper a couple of years ago about French civil servants who hadn't been at their desks for many years but were still on the payroll. Apparently just stopped going to work and no-one noticed. Much as I like France, it is an awful place.

Wouldn't matter if they were there or not. You can't fire anyone in France anyhow.

I used to work for a French company, and they were appalled and horrified that American employees could be laid off if the company lost a contract or got out of a particular business, and they weren't needed any more ...

After having waited for ages in a slow-moving post office queue in a small French town listening to all the chit-chat and gossip between each customer and the counter girl I pulled her leg about being so busy.
I couldn't fault her reply: "All the while I have a queue I have a job".

i was back in last Monday 'till Thursday,friday off,back in on Saturday and back in as 'normal' tomorrow.

"Yes", weather permitting. I work outside construction. About 1" of snow over 1/2" of ice right now. There will be melting runoff at the new construction house I am on...so "maybe not".

I finished 2012 when i was 59 and had enough of the 10 hour days, 6 days a week. back then, there were no spare electricians looking for a job. Even now, my 2 Nephews are working silly hours.
Electricians and plumbers are ideal occupations right now.

Same goes here for welders, machinists, and truck drivers. Some drivers are making over $100,000 a year; a lady we know that works for a local trucking company says that's it's very difficult to find people that can pass (and keep) their Commercial Driver's License certification. Most can't pass their drug tests, and the State is forging forward with completely legalizing dope. Legal or not, no trucking company can keep a stoned driver employed, they'd get sued out of existence. So wages are going up, and sober drivers have their pick of jobs, both local (home every night) and over-the-road (gone most of the week but much bigger money). Stoners are just hosed and moan about how hard life is.

One of my sons is a mechanical engineer, one is a commission salesman for tree services, and both of them are having their best years ever.

But I suppose that the kids paying a quarter of a million for 4 years for a Womyn's Gender Studies degree will keep on doing it, especially if they expect the government to bail out their debt with my tax money.

It's not hard to do it right, at least not by our standards.

I was made redundant at 63 years old. Not a good age to get re-employed. Wasn't allowed to sign on either due to having some redundancy pay in my bank. Seems the harder you work the less your thought off. Spent the next two years labouring with a couple of local builders. Bit tough at my age then but did enjoy it. Then decided to have a go at bike deliveries and here I am still doing it.

The oldest rocker in town!

To supplement my income when i moved to Dartmoor I did part time for a Hire company picking up cleaners, tools, and cement mixerand scaffold towers the killer for me was delivering gas cylinders for a Garages bl---y things so heavy and no way to grip them... Getting them off the back of the truck in icey weather was worse..
