This has been coming for at least the last year: blatantly obvious what was going to happen - the real shock is the authorities didn't prepare for it. When they've such a great history of strong protest policing you'd have thought they'd be out in force.

Apparently, the capitol building has 2000 guards to keep people out. Seems they showed a lot of restraint when letting the protesters stroll in. Only 4 people killed during the brief raid.
it was difficult believing T even got into office in the first place. Now he is looking like an even bigger fool.
Not much social distancing during the raid.

Not enough room here, gentlemen, to change anyone's minds about anything.

About seventy million folks, however, know that they've been disenfranchised by cheating, and aren't going to accept that a senile career politician and his knee-pad wearing sidekick are the legitimate leaders of this country.

I think Biden's got more to fear from his ambitious backup than he does from anyone else ... !

On the local level, however, nothing ever changes, no matter who's in those offices. Even in 2008 when the Demonrats had the presidency, the House and the Senate, they couldn't pass any laws, no gun control, no nothing. So there's that.

Meanwhile, we keep on keeping on, and keep our powder dry.

Well, the streets AREN'T paved with gold.

People have different ideas about how to give everyone an opportunity, and it dips deeply into human nature.

One side believes that if government limits itself to providing "equality of opportunity", to enforcing fair laws, to putting reasonable limits on unfettered capitalism, and letting people make their own way, perhaps with a limited "safety net" for those that fail, then that's the way to go.

The other side believes that government should ensure "equality of outcomes" - that everyone should "end up" at the same point, and if they don't, then it must be because of racism or bigotry, and that it's the role of government to forcibly take from the ones who "have" and give to the ones who "have not".

It's the eternal battle, and the battle lines were never clearer than this past year.

I can help you with some things that you can verify but never heard in "the media".

1. The lowest-paid 25% of Americans had a 4.5% income boost in November 2019, which outpaces a 2.9% gain in earnings for the country’s highest-paid workers. This benefits African Americans because many, according to Associated Press research cited in 2018 by USA TODAY, are in low-paying jobs.

2. In 2018, Trump signed the groundbreaking First Step Act, a criminal justice reform bill that enacted reforms that made our justice system fairer and helps former inmates return to society. More than 90% of those benefiting from the retroactive sentencing reductions in the First Step Act are African Americans.

3. Under Trump, poverty rates for African Americans and Hispanic Americans reached their lowest levels since the U.S. began collecting such data.

4. Pre COVID-19, African American unemployment was at an all-time low.

5. The Pledge to America’s Workers has resulted in employers committing to train more than 4 million Americans.

6. The First Step Act’s reforms addressed inequities in sentencing laws that disproportionately harmed African Americans, and reformed mandatory minimums that created unfair outcomes.

7. Trump signed the first Perkins C.T.E. re-authorization since 2016, authorizing more than $1 billion for states each year to fund vocational and career education programs.

The previous noted actions by the Trump administration are all substantive and measurable. The Trump administration has done considerably more for the African American community than several previous Democrat administrations. Considering those accomplishments, it is puzzling that black leaders continue to march in lockstep with the Democrats. Where are the free thinkers in that community?

From an economic standpoint...

1. Under Trump’s leadership, in 2018 the U.S. surpassed Russia and Saudi Arabia to become the world’s largest producer of crude oil.

2. The Trump administration made a deal with the European Union to increase U.S. energy exports to Europe.

3. It withdrew the U.S. from the job-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership, a major change in trade policy.

4. The Trump Administration secured $250 billion in new trade and investment deals in China and $12 billion in Vietnam.

5. It approved up to $12 billion in aid for farmers affected by unfair trade retaliation, but announced a total of $28 billion in aid for farmers in 2018 and 2019.

Other accomplishments include a dozen hostages freed, moving the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, initiating historic tax cut legislation for Opportunity Zones and fulfilling his campaign promise to improve the Veterans Administration, just to name a few.

There are a lot more, but you would never know listening to the Democrat-controlled liberal media. As far as they are concerned, none of these things happened.

But enough of that. A lot of folks are going to take a modified Gandhi approach. If enough of us don't do what they tell us, they can't make us do it, and things will have to change.

It all starts at home anyhow. Can't do anything about what's going on in the Imperial Capital.

I can help you with some things that you can verify but never heard in "the media".

I have to admit to a fairly open mind as I really don't (bother to) pay enough attention to the situation to understand the real truth.
My rather negative perception of Trump is largely based upon what I learn from the U.K. media. Unfortunately it's his arrogant demeanour, patent (to my eyes and ears) untruths and soundbite sculpted rhetoric that sours my opinion of him.

We can do "dueling sources" all day long.

For example ...

and a thousand more like it showing him from 1990 to the present day in his support of American black progress and equality. But the media will never show those, because that's not "their story".

And you can show a thousand memes and lists showing what a racist dictatorial monster Trump is and has always been.

And I can show a hundred videos, that will NEVER appear on the media, that show Biden slurring his words, forgetting where he was, and showing other obvious signs of dementia.

But "Confirmation Bias" is the order of the day. I will search out things that confirm my personal biases, and you will search out things that confirm your personal biases, and our UK buddies here will NEVER see anything (unless they look for it) that the media doesn't want them to see. And very few people will look for, or believe, anything that doesn't confirm what they've already been told.

Basically, if someone says that he's been turned into a newt, I'll have a look and see if he's little and wet. What am I going to believe, the "news" or my own lying eyes?

It'll be an interesting year.

Thank you, Lannis. You're right, we never hear that, and I suspect most African-Americans don't either.

I think the big issue is that Trump is too obviously a dream for Putin, as was Brexit, where our own govt refuses to investigate undue influence via social media.

In terms of weakening his enemies Putin has been the most effective Russian leader in history, probably on the lowest budget.

America can no longer claim to be leader of the free world without being a laughing stock amongst less democratic countries - that's the problem: it makes facing down the real barbarians much more difficult when you can't even agree on the facts of an election, behave like a civilised adult etc.

So, back to the newly independent 'mother of democracy' to teach the colonials by example once again eh?

Well, about twice as many African Americans voted for Trump than voted for Hillary Clinton last go-round ... many of them are waking up to the fact that they are really the modern-day slaves on the "welfare plantation", maintained by their overseers for the overseers benefit and to maintain a reliable voting bloc.

I've never been black, so I don't know much more about it than the rest of you do ....

OK since my Heart attack a month ago I haven't really recovered I have loss of balance and just generally feel crap and spend most of my time stuck in a chair.. I have a v community nurse that rings me up twice a week to see how I'm getting on Last week Monday 8 hours in A&E as bad stomach pains.. Outcome come back Monday for an MRI scan. Another day the scan took ten mins at the most the rest of the time waiting to have cranula inserted and removed the Doctors report they couldn't find anything but might be gut bleeding from my medication and will have the camera up bum job in a few weeks.. The hospital is under staffed due to Covid
After talking to my nurse this week it they havenow decided to take away three types of medication as they have found it is lowering my blood pressure to unacceptable levels (my B/P is normally low). So see how that goes The good news is I have extra arteries feeding the heart one in 500 have this and it was the filaments of these arteries that blocked Surgeon says the best heart attack to have.. So now hoping to feel better..

Don't despair TUD it may take some time to get back to some sort of normality. I had similar at a fairly young age and there's no magic route. Patience and belief are required. Not belittling your condition, but it's very easy to believe you're worse than you actually are. Take care and take it easy.

History will show that, measured by what he actually accomplished (keeping us out of endless wars, brokering Mideast peace agreements, lowering unemployment to record lows, especially for minorities, bringing manufacturing back to the USA, getting the USA out of treaties that were ruinous for the US, etc etc), Trump will go down as one of the greatest presidents ever, despite his grating personality and approach.

What won't fare so well in history is the almost psychotic hatred of him by the political Uniparty establishment, who realized he wasn't going to play their game and could not be controlled by them, and whose media lapdogs spun, lied, and screamed for 4 years about how horrible it all was; ie that we'd all been turned into newts.

His problem was that he did not go far enough in firing the established bureaucrats that REALLY control things in any government ...

A shaky, senile marionette puppet with a history of supporting the starting of endless wars with his finger on the red button should be an even scarier thought ... !

"keeping us out of endless wars" He came a bit too close to it a few times with North Korea, Iran and Russia. Chickened out at last minute.
