Joking aside that's really nice. A mate of mine has done a nut and bolt resto on one of these and a power valve 350 - both lovely bikes.

You don't have to be crazy to post here, but it helps....

The pre restriction 125s were good bikes. My son had an RD125 which I rode several times. Staggering performance for an engine of that size. 30 odd BHP I believe.

Screaming 2 strokes are fun.

A mate of mine let me have a go on his RM125 Scrambler many years ago, when it hit the powerband it was amazing.

A mate of mine let me have a go on his RM125 Scrambler many years ago, when it hit the powerband it was amazing.

When I rode one of those it wasn't amazing - it was bloody frightening ! We used to ride in an old quarry - with deep drops in places & the edge came up far too quickly for my liking. I stuck to trials bikes.

Indeed - amazing / frightening, it was like flicking a switch.

My mate progressed onto riding big Maicos and was a pretty handy moto cross rider in his day.

Better check that HP figure.

A 125 with 30 HP would (as you say) be some pretty damn odd horsepower ... !

Even Yamaha's literature only claimed 17 hp, and you know how they are ... they probably measured it at the top of the piston crown ... !!

I am recalling from nearly 30 years ago without looking anything up. I know it was a single cylinder so must have been an LC with 21hp. I do know it went like the clappers.

They WILL go like the clappers ... when I was last spectating on the Isle of Man for the Manx GP, I was checking the program for the bikes coming through (I was at Geof Staples' place in Kirk Michael), and the 125s were hitting 120 MPH coming through the downtown. They used to LAP at 109 ... !
