Yea our mechanics still never worked out how the Cannon shell went all around those bends in the crankshaft

Back in the 80s there were loads of anti nuclear protests including the peace camp at Greenham Common. One day there was a mass incursion and they were forced back by the use of a line of dog teams. As they got everyone clear of the gate one of my mates was walking away when he heard the shout "away back to your death camp, you nazi bast'rd" He promptly about turned and strode up telling these protestors " how very dare you, my grandfather died in belsen" There was a lot of mumbled apologies and shuffling of feet until he finished with "yea he fell out a watchtower"
He never claimed it as his own, but dined out on it for years to come

I drove past that camp many times and couldn't help feeling sorry for the poor kids having to live in the cold and squalor so that their mums could make a point.

I once went to a protest there, in my youthful and idealistic days and since my very pretty girlfriend wanted to go. At 6'4" I stood out quite a bit and stood watching the ladies pulling down a fence - there was no way I was going to get involved. A lady walked up to me and said, "You're taking up a woman's space," in a very condescending and aggressive manner. As I was in a space that was empty of people for about six feet on all sides I got her point very clearly.

I'm still pleased with my reply, "I can move a bit to the left."

I don't think she appreciated it as much as I did

My wife wanted to go on a cruise but I couldn't get her over the fence at Greenham Common.

I had a couple of policeman friends who were sent from Egham nick the police the protest and they told of tales some of the women used disgarded sanitary towels to hang on the fence and throw at the patrolling police.... Not nice..
