Maybe time related Leon as the online Telegraph reduces it's articles to a few lines eventually.

Bought by the Indian company TVS and to open a plant in Solihull with an increased workforce.

It's sort of like an Indian or Chinese company buying the "Wolseley" name and brand, and taking a small Chinese car and marketing it as a "Wolseley 18/91".

Would people be saying "Look, they're making Wolseleys again, I remember learning how to drive on a 1956 4/44 that my grandad gave me when he quit driving, I'm sure glad to see them back on the road, it's just like old times"?

Now that I've said it, maybe they would. Sure wouldn't appeal to me, though.

Or MG cars, as in Morris Garages, now made in China, 'assembled in Longbridge'. I'll not be at the front 9f the queue to buy one....

This, of course, raises the question of whether it's even possible to "revive" Norton, any more than it's possible to revive the Holy Roman Empire, or to revive TE Lawrence.

You can stick an Asian-owned decal on anything, but what's the use?

Well the Norton being produced is old tech at high price and the V4 is a foreign engine at an astronomical price.. So I can't see it being viable.. But that's my view..

Dave,
For development of the V4 Norton did use Aprilia RSV4 engines and that what was in the bike when it first appeared at the TT. But since then they have replaced it with a new engine of their own design, although I'm sure it probably has "Aprilia influences"

Hi Dave,

When the first Hinckleys came out, Bloor's designers were accused of copying Kawasakis; don't think it's done Hinckley any harm?

When you hire a bunch of experienced engine designers and say, "I want an inline water-cooled triple and four (or a V4) that'll work out of the box", the designers are going to design what they know. If a V4 that looks like an Aprilia finally starts Norton on a similar path to Hinckley, so?

Yes, the 1st engine used was foreign but the 2nd current one isn't.

And so what if it was a foreign engine? Norton's racing success started with a foreign engine in 1907!

You would think so; but even supposedly smart guys will blow £100M on dropping a real floater sometimes. See "Excelsior Henderson"....

Maybe the 650 twins they are going to make will be competition to the Enfield twin. The Enfield is selling very well to the older riders looking for that British name.
As far as the Commando goes, triumph 1200 t120 is much better to ride. Lots of those Commandos around Torquay though.

Not direct competition at the oft-quoted £10k price point for the new design Norton 650 twins. That and being blighted by extreme ugliness.

I think the success of the Royal Enfield twin is not just down to a rather nice bike but the price.

Jerry you may well be right but when I brought it was £5.5grand on the road was new & looked old school stylish that is what attracted me, since using and owning it is definitely perfect out of the box some people have issues apparently but I think want to be seen to be an expert in their hobby but praise is lauded on it by most owners. perfectly priced presented, & fit for purpouse. pitched at the over priced Triumph level probably not as popular imo& probably yours,if one wanted super bike performance It's what you should buy

This is now the only older looking bike that I own but have to admit I was very tempted when the RE twin first came out.

I'm still out on the Enfield Havnt sat on one yet being long I leg it might not be for me I do like the looks most of the forums are trying to get more performance out of the bike but I'm past that now

Moses built the first Norton; he had a factory on the mount and came down from the mount with his first batch of ten Commandoes.
