How daft

Long queues last night waiting to get fast food outlet near Plymouth
From Devo News.. My son came to see us on the way home from work and told us about these queues backing up onto the A38 motorway at Marsh Mills Plymouth.. Is there any hope???

What happened to all the frozen food people queued up for a few days ago at supermarkets? Have their refrigerators broken down?
Apparently, they have enough toilet paper to last until next week when there will be another queue.

The fast food generation. I rarely eat it unless away for the day and normally have KFC then. I try and eat vegetables every day but i still put on weight with this lack of going away and days out.

Maybe the reason for so much obesity isn't the excessive amount of fast food that these gluttons consume but the fact that they only have one a*se 'ole.

Those "just eat" ads make me smile - now you dont even have to get up of your arse to get your junk food, just order it down the phone and someone brings it to you.

What its going to be next "just wipe"?

I can't complain only been into a couple in my life yes had fish & chips from my local as something different but the latest fast foods. only one in Sydney Aus. McDonald's was ill afterwards.. Doesn't anybody cook now?

A handful of good chippies around; even in the rural areas, but getting more scarce. Good fish and chips is a rare treat if you can find a decent outlet.

Agree - we are lucky enough to have 2 good ones locally one is very "old school" and has been here for as long as I can remember, think it is run by 2nd or 3rd generation. The other one is a new one run by people I think may be Spanish, but their stuff is spot on.

No Jerry, the long walkabouts burn all the calories off. Often walk about 4 mile a day when on shore exploring as we dont sit on beaches burning.

I always call Mc Donalds "Muck Donalds" - it's OK once in a while, as is KFC.

I stil regard a takeaway as a "treat" probably have one no more than about once a month on average.

I do like a McDonalds known again, but I would never queue. Big Mac and fries, yummy. Maybe I like it because it appeals to us teenagers

Couple of years back a Chippy won the best chippy of the year award that was in Beer a few miles from me and must admit I have had F&C there twice and was good very good..

We have the best fish and chip shop ever where I live. Never order large as we would never get through it. We always ask for medium portion of chips and still cant eat all of them. It's run by a lovely chinese couple. Mmm think I might be down there this evening for my Saturday take away.

People who regularly eat KFC and McDonald's clearly have no care at all for their own health, so I guess it's too much to expect them to care about anybody else's...

For what ?

Is this gripe about the dietry choices of many, or about your unhappiness with anyone who chooses not to lock themselves away 24/7 or wants to move around the South West in general?

If the former - it is their life, they choose what to shove down their gullet, they take the consequences. Not my choice for the most part, though I will admit to having an "Annual McDonalds visit" - though it is usually just for a coffee.

If the latter - seems to me that they are "socially distanced", so what potential harm is there in the context of current situation ?

Odd, innit. Home cooking and baking programmes on TV have never been more popular.

The point being do they really need it and what did they do before I worked in London 50s 60s and there were no coffee outlets and if you were there at the weekend only the ABC and posh resuraunts open Pubs were only limited hours unless in Smith fields when open midnight to eight in the morning for traders.. How did we cope. Now in Exeter there are more eateries and coffee outlets than shops now in one area there are twelve eateries next to one and other.. There is a Smiths with a coffee outlet and a Chemist..

That was then & this is now, Dave.

The world has changed - in many ways not for the better IMO, but there it is. There are many (maybe two or three generations now ?) who do not know how to cook from scratch at home & rely upon ready meals and takeaways to survive. These seem to me not to be great in the main & I have rarely had one that I feel I could not have prepared better (or cheaper, or both) myself. Same goes for a lot of the "pub grub" type restaurants - usually chosen for convenience, not the experience, for the most part.

I cannot recall a time when there were not numerous cafes, takeaways, coffee shops etc. since I took an interest from the mid-70s onwards. Different cuisine maybe, but no shortage. There may be more now & tastes change, but so what ?

You're right ... I feel sort of sorry for people who are so dependent on others for even their daily food; unable to take care of themselves if something happens. But it's their choice.

The bothersome thing is the general hypocrisy about lifestyles. When I were a lad, we used to "go out" to eat about once a month; it was a real treat to go to the S&W Cafeteria or to Maude's Restaurant.

Young couples here today take their families out to eat 5 times a WEEK. They don't know how to feed themselves without fast food, they pay WAY more than one would pay to fix meals at home. Everyone in the car has a smartphone, every driver in the home has a car, every kid has a 4WD ATV ...

... and yet they moan about "income inequality" and how hard it is to make it, and how both parents have to work to scrape by, all the while enjoying 10 times the material benefits that I grew up with. It's a combination of ignorance of the past, and hypocrisy about current conditions, mostly driven by envy, the oldest of human attributes.

And 100-car queues at McDonalds are just an indicator. Their choice, though, I just don't want to help pay for it.

Exmouth must have more fish and chip shops than any comparable town. Possibly 20 and all seem popular. I do use the chip shops a few times a year for local caught cod from Brixham market.
If you look around Exmouth, you will find about 40 small restaurants. Formerly, we had a lot of students in the town but the college shut down.
All the night clubs have gone but takeaways survive.
Weatherspoons does well offering food but one young man has developed a gin pub and getting rich. Looks like the majority of Townfolk eat takeaways here.

The best for food quality and value in my opinion were staffed by old ladies - at St Albans a barn type operation, don’t remember what it was called, and Bartons Cafe on the Bath road Slough.

You hit it on the head there Lannis similar here people plead poverty and spend on overpriced crap cooked in God knows how old oil then take pics with thier latest smart phones which usually has a large contract. If like me on a limited budget I just sit back and laugh.. I know you can't belive what you see on TV but they show food banks and the people who turn up are usually overweight or have Fort Knox buried in thier upper lips and nose there you are gripe over...

Our church runs a Food Bank, open every Wednesday, about half of them are folks who look like they might need help, the other half are driving cars nicer than mine, a couple of grand in gold sticking in their faces, and wobbling fat ... Makes you despair sometimes.

But commit the crime of "noticing" and you get tagged a "curmudgeon"! I wear the badge proudly.

But en France. They are licensed and didn't see a drunkard.
Gasping for refreshment came across loads of tipper trucks parked outside a small grey village just north of Millau on a wind wet grey day. Aha, where are the drivers. No signs up but one shop had old net curtains and steamy windows.
Took a chance and poked my head in. There they were, all noshing away with half carafes of red win at their elbows. Suits me Sir straight in. No one took a blind bit of notice of a miserable, wet , wind blown cyclist.
Which was nice and totally different from the Brits on the return ferry who looked you up and down as if you were something unpleasant on their shoe. Dratsabs.

Best takeaway is in Dominican republic street markets. Fill up and then 24 hours later, empty out for 3 days. Its why the natives are all thin.

Never been ill on a cruise ship. The simple tip is to eat or drink nothing on land in the Caribbean. Europe is safer but maybe just coffee on land. Ships have enough food without needing top ups but packed lunches can be picked up for the very hungry.
They do get Norovirus on ships but you need to know how to protect against it. mostly caused by the guests who will not wash their hands when preparing to eat.
