Saw it at Goodwood not as noisy as as a Honda Six but it uses straight pipes not Meggas

I expect it will be making a few outings this year as its the centenary of Guzzi. I believe it clocked 184mph and it was 30 years before a race bike went faster, but was never really successful 'coz the big Italian firms all agreed to withdraw from GP racing before it could be developed fully.

Here it is on home territory, ridden with true Italian respect for health& safety

I'm sure that the reason that he had on no safety gear was that if he crashed that bike, he was either going to get killed in the crash, or afterward by the owners .... so what the heck?

There is one in the Moto Guzzi museum in the factory at Mandello Del Lario - a little jewel when you get up close to it. On the walls next to the bike are the framed copies of the engine drawings - true works of art in their own right IMO.

The Mandello Museum is well worth a look if you are in the area - it was free to enter when we visted some years ago, but was only open from 3pm-4pm Monday to Friday. It isn't sign posted, but you lurk near the factory exit & at 3pm a chap opens an unmarked side door in the side of the building. Climb the stairs inside & the museum is a huge area on the first floor. IIRC there is an example of every road bike they have made, plus a lot of the factory racing bikes. Very little info & the bikes are just rowed up as in a showroom. Come 4pm the staff are shooing you out of the door. All rather bizarre, but typical of Moto Guzzi "doing it their way". I have some pictures somewhere - could dig them out if there is interest ?

There was one running at the last Biker's Classics at Spa that I attended. IIRC it was being ridden by John Surtees. A bit smoky when it started up but, as said, not that loud.

Remember a report in the Motor Cycle saying they warmed the oil up externally before starting, so exotic was it.

The Guzzi V8 was without doubt a fantastic piece of engineering, had development continued who knows what the result might have been. The cost of these exotic machines, was getting more than the top Italian factories could afford, so in 1957 a truce was called.

Rob said what about the size of the valves, I Know it was ten years later, but if you want small, how about about the 125 five cylinder Honda, with "four" valves per cylinder. To put that into perspective it equates to a twenty cylinder five hundred, with eighty valves.
