Spending too much time indoors and going through stuff hidden away.. This might be of interest as you know I don't just have a passion for things with wheels but anything with a history |
This is a pic of some of my collection of Clay pipes (some re-constructed) all but the two large Victorian pipes were found on the Thames foreshore around the London Bridge area
The smaller the pipe bowl the earlier so the smallest is around 1580 going up to 1750s..the large bowl short stems to the right are 1800s and found complete the other bowls are as usually found as the Ale houses along the Thames would sweep the floors straight into the Thames you could also buy tobacco and pipes in these establishments... The two large pipe are commemorative one with Football and boot the other comemorating the famous Jocky B Archer and his horse Donavon around late 1800s..
This is not all that can be found on the foreshore you have to be lucky there are Roman roof tiles and shards of pottery of all periods.. I also have a collection of dressmaking pins found under the site of the old London Bridge.. Plus Georgian shoe buckles etc.. All this was acquired in the 60s when working in London..
Kick me off if I have bored you. TUD
