1959 accident

2 pictures of my Late Brother. Head on into a car with no helmet and a pillion passenger. The passenger leaned over on a bend. Raymond was banned for 3 years which seems harsh these days. he went through the car windscreen and finished up in the rear seat. Multiple injuries to head leg and arms and a priest was at the bedside. The scar is long as the pin was put down the femur but also, the bone was shattered so was wound with silver wire in a spiral. One year later, he was all healed up and had no effect on his whole life after. Not even a limp. 16 year old back then and i think the bike was a Villiers 150 or 200 single. It was torn into 2 pieces so only the front was brought to the house. Someone bought the rear half with engine. He died at 74 years from the same aneurysm i have so i am looking after mine with just 1mm growth last year.

I was 5 at the time and had to stay outside the hospital and play in the area outside the old R,D,and E hospital in Exeter. Back then, it was safe to leave me playing outside but seems unbelievable nowadays. I did my apprenticeship with him when i was 15. Yesterday, his Son and Grandsons were around for tea, All electricians for the company he started up. I left the business when i had my accident in 1979 and 4 years of recovery. I could not kneel very well after so not able to wire houses at that time. The business is extremely busy and they all work around 60 hours a week at the moment. I do a bit of buying for them now i am at home most days for deliveries. I am trying to get them to take on my Grandaughter but there are a lot of issues employing people. One is the requirement to pay into a scheme for the training of other companies staff. They hate paperwork, preferring to just work. It is an NICEIC registered firm and works mostly on high end housing in the Million pound homes. Full of hi-tec equipment operated by smartphones. Taking on the car charging systems soon and used to do solar until that work dried up and not worth doing now. My Brother had 6 employees in the 1970s doing night storage heating. I used to install about 30 a month average in addition to Spar and Mace shops in Devon and Cornwall and all the Whitbread pubs. Busy as hell every week.

My irritating Neighbour has made his hous all techy and things like blinds electronic has the obligitory doorbell camera modern lighting etc but the outside of the house is a disaster nothing properly finished. We had a hell of a row six months ago as there was not a day when a power tool was not being used and lorries delivering building supplies buggering up my drive.. But with all this electronic wizardry his van battery keeps going flat and has to jump start it from his wife's brand new Skoda.... The other week he fitted a solar battery charger to it that still didn't work so now its got a mains cable running to it.. Tonupdave..T.U.D.

The big problem with too much of this smart gear and LED lighting, it does go wrong. Simple wiring and equipment stays working. My own clever gear at home gets problems but i can fix it. Most people are having to pay for repairs. I did full LED lighting on a house in Exeter but one fitting failed at 2 years. So much for the claimed long life. An old filament lamp lasts longer. Keeps electricians in work though just like plastic water pipes, supports the Plumbers call outs !
