The guy at about 15 mins in wearing the green looks to have plenty of "ballast".

Some of them make it look easy - looks like fun.

It's one of the toughest trials competitors from all over the country start from official points so every competitor covers the same distance is a night and day trial taking in as many as fifty sections and special tests
My section at Fingle Woods near Castle Droge was a mile long section no footing for bikes cars struggle then at the top of the climb was a stop - start timed section.. I have had to pick up riders and physicly put them back on the bike as they were so tired and cold.. That's the Exeter trial.. My son competed in many and only got two Golds for finishing they are tough trials but great fun proper sport..

My attempt on the Ariel early morning time trial on wet grass somewhere in North Devon a bloke right footrest I retired a couple of sections later as nowhere to put my foot..

You are only allowed to use standard tyres and rear engine helps....a few years back a Citroen Dyan was use it was hopeless until the next year when it was sorted with loads of ballast in the front.. I first did this in 1960 on a 350 AJS starting from Virginia Water.. a long cold night I Finnished but outside time.. Ten years later I took up Marshalling and still have my Marshalls award (replica)... There's a good section near to Drum Bridges Geoff if you want to spectate when it starts again...

Haven't seen an Anglia estate for decades! Must be quite a rarity. Amazed any have survived this long.

I think i saw a kit car based on the MG Midget/sprite . Called an Arkley SS with Morgan style front and rear sections. I built one in the 1970s after a rollover accident. That kit was later hit in the side by another car and written off again. Good kit fitted by cutting off the rear section of the car and bonding a fibreglass one back on. Throw away the front wings and a one piece unit fitted on. Car became much lighter and faster.

The Ford Pop special was a friends Sian Lenhi and I was his navigatorwe started from Tintinhull at four in the morning and never reached Exeter about 30 miles away as the fuel tank was leaking Maz came out to rescue (no mobiles back then) the fuel we lost made the rear mounted tank frost up like a freezer it as near to freezing San still has the car and I fitted an expensive all alloy Smiths clock from a racing Jaguar.. I should ask for it back?

I built an Arkley SS in the late 60s. All the kit came from John Britain Garages a Morgan agent.

Divie, it was a lot of fun bonding the rear end on from inside the boot section. This particular one had to have British Leyland special tuning spoked wheels as the standard spokes were too weak for an 1098 engine with a few modifications.
Had to weld up some original joins in the metalwork with continuous weld as spot welds would be too weak with all the metal that was removed. It was a good kit. Made the rear light housings from plastic rainwater pipe about 2 inch diameter grey tube.

Geof, yes they where marginal for strength. I was heavily into motorsport at the time and fitted a formula junior spec engine. Soon got outclassed and went the Shorocks supercharger route with a 2"SU carb. Next weak link was halfshafts, cured with an Escort/Capri rear axle. Got fed up with the whole thing and swopped for a Lotus 7.
A Holbay tuned 1725cc rootes engine was far to much for a Standard 10 rear axle but fun when nothing broke. The bank of Mom put and end to playing with cars.

My son fitted a Rover V8 into a VW Beetle and A Fiat twin cam into his Skoda Rapid both almost impossible to drive without a boot full of concrete.. But both are still out there and running.. With new owners...
