Like a lot of us on here I have worked since I was 15 years old. Never had any time off or claimed any sick pay. I paid into a pension scheme so I could look after myself once I finished work. Had a nice letter from the inland revenue last week telling me I have a pension pay rise. Wow I thought and worked it out and I am getting a whopping £3.00 a week more. Today another letter from the Inland Revenue telling me I haven't paid enough tax so for the next year they are going to take it back at ....yep £3.00 a week. Sometimes I wonder who are the better off the scroungers who get everything and put nothing in because it sure aint the likes of me! Rant over.

Jerry, I'm going to snitch on you to the DHSS & HMRC for benefit fraud = 17 year olds aren't entitled to a pension.

I am paying quite a lot of tax on my pension. I also lose 50 pounds a month due to me taking out a private scheme. The good thing is, i am getting a lot more income than i am spending so all good. I could even buy a pair of heated grips now lol.

"... getting more than you're spending ..." When you're working, you have some control over both sides of that. When you retire, you've only got control over one side.

But successful people can still make that work. All a matter of attitude!

Fay and I never learned how to spend a lot of money. I still do the Fred Sanford "It's the Big One Elizabeth, I'm comin' to see you!" imitation when she suggest new carpets or paint or drapes, but we manage to make it work out.

Mainly because when she finds out I've spent something on the bikes, she is instantly authorized to spend a like amount on the house, so I have to watch myself!!

Its a funny system that after paying tax all your working life, they give you a small amount to feed yourself and then, if you have threepence left over, they want it back. My tax is only about 150 pound a month. My private pension is linked to the retail price index so i predict no rise during this pandemic as prices are actually falling a little.
Just glad i planned for retirement and saved a bit along the way.
My elder brother might have done it a better way by buying a motorhome and spending all his money, then claimed pension credits to run it. Funeral, they played fools and horses song.

I saved hard all of my life,,trouble is i did most of it the Ken Dodd way,,,took out two private work pensions and froze them as i moved on,was too lazy to sort them out and nxt thing i,m an old man,,hindsight is a wonderful thing.
