Just seen a locum Doc at my surgery who made the mistake of mentioning he had a motorcycle !!!
Well two of them actually. BMW 800's one for him and one for his guests in the south of France. Retired and lives down there but came back to help us out, part time. (To get away from grand children really). Anyway I mentioned about the proposed new anti filtering law.
He nearly did a back flip. When the bikers over there got organised said OK, we will all use our cars instead and nobody will go nowhere.
It was quietly swept under the carpet.
Solidarity Brothers.
Aside - I always found the best move in business to counter a bitterly complaining customer was to agree with them and so take the wind out of their sails so to speak. Then mount a counter view of the affair. Usually came away with request for a quote for more work to be done. Which was doubly pleasing to me, knowing that the office would not be happy at being given more work to do.
They took the view that the boot should be on the other foot.

Unfortunately the people that make the rules nowadays have no conception of normality and the past looking at the problems at the moment with Race colour and creed plus now talking of more street lighting and CCTV cameras when if you are worried about being out after dark the surely get a taxi home or go in a group.. All stirred up by Social media.. Like social grieving... That's what we have come to
I am ashamed to be in the company of these ignorant and uneducated people... Who open thier mouths and absolute rubbish spills out then there is a knee jerk reaction

Couldn't agree more Dave. I wouldn't feel safe on my own in quite a few areas of Birmingham after dark. My solution is not to go to those places on my own. Simples....

I remember a previous demonstration some years ago when they not only blocked the Paris ring road but also the Metro. That made the government squeak.

Back to the vigil the other day/night, the women have a point. There are so many dirty and nasty old bas**rds out there who actually think they can say what they like to women and worst case attack them and that it's alright, acceptable. I don't know what planet they think they're on.
I've always found that if you treat all women with respect and endear yourself to them the response you get makes it all worth while.

My first trip to Oz, we were having a party in I think Sydney, the two junior engineers were working 12-on, 12-off for some reason; the one 'off' wasn't quite as blunt as, "Hey Sheila do you ****?" but, whatever he said, it wasn't much of a chat-up line ...

She did reply, "Usually, but not with a sweet-talking bastard like you." ...

They're on Earth, in an allegedly-'civilised' first world city, at the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century. The reason the "dirty and nasty old bas**rds ... who actually think they can say what they like to women" do it is because there isn't any comeback; we have elected successive governments to reduce the number of ordinary pointy-headed bobbies to such an extent that the police simply aren't capable of either deterring low-level crime or of solving it when it occurs. These nuisance crimes don't appear in any police bean-counters' statistics because they simply aren't reported - ordinary bog-standard city dwellers lost faith years ago in the police's ability both to deter low-level crimes in the first place and their willingness to investigate and solve them when they did occur.

The shiny-arses further up the organisation chart live in 'nice' areas so don't have a clue what real life is like for the majority, 'til someone like Sarah Everard hits in the headlines. In "ordering a report", Priti "Teflon" Patel is once again in CYA mode, not that the tame 'journalists' and news 'editors' at the Bullshit Broadcasting Corporation and Idiot TV will point out that the policing buck actually stops at the Home Secretary.

I agree to a certain extent with what you say but as you know it is now an offence to wolf whistle a girl or pass a remark as my Maz says it was all harmless fun this wasn't stalking and as Maz say mostly flattering but there are those amongst society today want everything there way hence we have coloured reporters on the news reporting on coloured events and the same with disabled been put there as it is said it is politically correct.. What happened to that young woman was deplorable but as usual the media turned it into an enormous event.. Up to then it wold and dose happen in the country but doesn't get the attention.. This has made me against such things there were no such Vigils in the old days there were none for the moors murders or any of the serial killers but now we have to have communal grieving..
My views only..

I also find it strange Dave, mourning for people you have no knowledge of at all. Complete strangers and the only thing you know is what the news tell you.
I am expecting at least 100,000 mourners when i die now. Booked up a stadium for the wake.

Problem with a "criminal offence" like this is, unless the "victim" can identify the whistler, nothing will or can be done - the potential way of identifying the "criminal" is someone (who has been "checked" and "certified" ) trawling through CCTV footage - all ridiculously expensive. Even if an offender is identified, a wise one simply says, "Not me, guv", leaving the expense of a trial to convict him; the less-wise admits the "offence" and has the rest of his life blighted by draconian penalties like being named on the Sex Offenders Register.

Problem with the shiny-arses that put themselves up for election is some actually thought making wolf-whistling a criminal offence was A Good Idea; any that had an attack of common sense wouldn't vote against it for fear of being branded misogynists and similar by the same harpies that are now whingeing about being arrested at the "vigil". So we end up with wolf-whistling being a "criminal offence" but without any realistic way of solving the "crime"; nevertheless, the single-issue harridans are satisfied they've "made society safer".

Not only that, either the Beeb or ITV managed to find some far kwit to say on camera that preventing communal grieving (while breaking the law and potentially catching the 'lergy) was against her human rights ...

Is it not the proliferation of easy to access to porn not a factor? It certainly appears that nowadays many young people's first experiences of sex are influenced by it, and not in a good way.

A very valid point Calidavid, 55Years ago or thereabouts, My thoughts were I do not need some old fart telling me or advising or censoring me what I should or not look at now I realise that censorship is needed to protect ourselves from our self's ,looking at pornography lowers decency makes it seem like normality, as does looking at violence on TV kicking people beating with sticks violence toward police etc.I like to think I have a moderate view & would defend anybody that has a different view I would of course believe them wrong
