Spanish guy needs to identify his grandad's bike

He posted these pics on the AMOC website having been told that it was an Ajay but t'aint.
Can anyone identify it?

I think it's a Terrot, they used JAP engines until they developed their own around 1927 (that oddly looked a lot like the JAP)

Yes your right though the engine has parallel pushrod tubes the pic I have they are nearer to the top that's a 350? 1930s

I'm a bit surprised it's got a LH chair, if it's a continental make. unless Spain drove on the left pre-war.

Ooo, seems Spain was mixed until 1924 (or 1930 depending on what you look at), with Madrid driving on the left and Barcelona on the right.

Do you have the frame number? it's normally on a plate fixed to the head-stock similar to this photo, May have gone missing of course. Number should (might be) repeated at the top of the saddle tube, left hand side

If you do find the number please let me know.

More info. Terrot also produced four-stroke models. First with a 350cc JAP engine. From 1927 onward, also with a 500cc engine. In 1926 Terrot began to make its own four-stroke engines. Not completely sure when they stopped using JAP. The saddle tank puts the year around 1930, previously they used a flat tank between the two top frame tubes.

The gear change appears to be English, not French. Of course, it could be a later addition, like the bladed brake / clutch levers...

Thanks all. I've passed the Terrot suggestion on to him and asked him to check for i.d. numbers as John suggested.
It has a Sturmey Archer gearbox so perhaps that's what Terrot used.
The Spanish enquirer, Javier, said he believed his grandad bought it around 1925 from from an English rider who came to race at the Terramar racetrack located in the town of Sitges, where he (Javier) now lives.
Wikipedia says:
<<<In 1932, Terrot entered motorcycle racing and won a triple championship, winning the French 250cc, 350cc and 500cc classes.>>>

so Terrot were involved in racing, albeit a few years later than c1927.

It has been suggested elsewhere that it may be an O.K. Supreme which apparently used JAP engines until 1930.........

The frame looks like a Terrot a steep angle on the front down tube otherwise very similar to Ariel

Last issued number in 1926........47000
Terrots still had flat tanks in '26, saddle tanks coming in '29. Could be a Magnat-Debon (same machine, different badge), Sorry don't have numbers for them.

Using the 500 magnification, it reads counter -something illegible on the gear selector cover.

Yes Leon, I enlarged the original that Javier sent to me.
I've directed him to this O.K. Supreme website which has detailed history and a huge gallery of dated photographs and a message board with posts about frame numbers, restoration, and where to get parts. Hopefully one of their aficionados may be able to help him.
