Blast from the past. O/T

A 1956 Holden taxi, when the fare was 1 shilling flagfall and a shilling a mile. A driver would be lucky to earn £20 per week working 60 hours. Those were the good old days?

it looks to have a touch of the Vauxhalls about it. Were they owned by General Motors? I suppose I could look it up, but it adds a bit to the topic. Nice photo BTW.

Holden is (or was when I last looked) owned by GM.

Before PSA bought Opel (and hence Vauxhall) some of the big, lairy RWD Vauxhall VXR cars were actually Holdens.

My mate works for DynoRod and drives the number 2's out from blocked drains.

I occasionally drove the number 2s out of Stockwell Bus Garage.

To answer questions: Holden was designed by GM in the USA, as an Australian-built car by Holden body works in 1948; it is probably a small Chevrolet as the engine is basically the same.

Yellow cabs Australia applied to the US company for permission to use the same yellow colour but they refused, so they had to use the orange colour; near enough is good enough I suppose.
