I took out a demonstrator RE Classic 500 last year while my Interceptor was in for it's annual service, and was rather smitten by it. Mrs B was amenable to the idea of another addition to the fleet, but by the time I got my behind in gear the demo bike I had ridden had been sold and, as the 500 singles had gone OOP by then, the dealer couldn't get hold of one. There were still some around in other dealers, but nothing without a fair bit of travel & I have been bitten before doing that.
So it was that I happend to be looking at s/h bikes and, unusually, found one fairly close by rather than at the other end of the country, as usually happens. After a trip to have a look at it, I am now the 4th owner of a 2016 Lagoon Blue RE Classic 500 Euro 3 version showing under 7000 miles - the first owner was the supplying dealer (demonstrator from the dealer who supplied my Interceptor), the second sold it to his son-in-law (the third), who only did 140 miles on it in 18 months between first & second MoTs.
I have given it an oil & filter change, a new air filter & plug. It was reasonably clean as supplied & is cleaning up nicely. The pillion seat was included, but the pad has been re-upholstered to make it larger & I would rather go back to standard. I didn't notice before I bought it that the anti-resonance rubbers had been removed from the head & barrel - unfortunate, because replacements come to around £80 (when did RE parts get so pricy !) Doubley unfortunate, then, that the previous POs hadn't kept them.
It has had non-standard sized tyres (oversized) fitted that will be changed at some point.
Only mamaged to get 150 miles on it over two trips so far, but is much as I recalled - a riding position that fits me nicely & a pleasantly different riding "experience".
