They did - both failed on the motorway, though fortunately not at the same time. I had that happen (on a Renault Laguna), where the second low beam lamp failed 30 miles after the first. Stopped in a layby & swapped the high beam lamps into the low beam sockets as, fortunately, the same lamps in both high & low beams - not always the case. Equally fortunately had a working torch in the car, as the layby was on an unlit road.
Not sure I want to spend on the high output lamps again for this car - getting a bit hacked off with it and depending on whether or not the dealer sorts it out (still under warranty) will depends on how long it stays.
Had few French cars when I had company cars - the Citroen BX turbo diesel was pretty good & gave few issues over the 5 years / 110,000 miles I had it. The 2 back-to-back Renault Lagunas were comfortable cars, but reliability so-so & servicing expensive - very glad I wasn't picking up the bills for those. My ex-employer wanted me to have a Peugeot (308 SW IIRC) same as he bought for a colleague - very glad I insisted on something else, as that was a poorly built unreliable dog of a car. Mrs B was never that keen ony any of them, as the soft supsension & plentiful body roll made her car sick.
Not owned a French car since giving up the company cars & wary of them from a reliability & running cost POV. Same can be said of many makes now, though. Gets ever more difficult to choose a replacement, as the "excluded makes" list seems to get ever longer each time !
