Exmouth news

Local paper says we are getting extra police around the town as we are having a problem with beggars. I certainly have not seen any beggars except one man selling big issue mags.
Could be interesting to see a policeman walking around as they closed the station and not had any walking police for over 10 years. Going to have to buy them some shoes.
We do have one PCSO in the town and he spends most of the day patrolling the local parks which is good for looking after the kids. We do still have some creepy people but no beggars.

That's what amused me when they spoke of 20000 extra police. Where were they going to find the money for all the extra cars needed.

The Council tax this year had a very large amount for policing but not really seen around here. Maybe other areas have a greater need. Exmouth is expanding rapidly around the outskirts at the moment but it will be well off people as house prices are over 300,000 now for a small semi detached. None of my grown up children can earn enough to buy a house now.
Maybe the way policing is done with forensics more than people looking at crimes is why we dont see many out and about. When i worked in the police station at Newton Abbot 10 years ago, they did have a facebook room where 6 officers were studying the criminals daily pages. Lots to be gained from facebook as people tend to say what they are doing and where they go.
I think there should be a uniformed officer in the town during the day. It keeps things calm, or it used to !

It's a shambles these days. It annoys me when after each RTA the police appeal for witnesses and dash cam footage. We're doing their job for them.

Funny Yesterday as i drove through the village of Newton Poppleford. There was a police staff man along with about 10 villagers being trained to use a speed camera. These people then spend all day out on the grass verge shooting pictures. Then, if you speed a little bit, a letter comes through saying they cannot prosecute you but tell you off. 30mph limit on a downhill stretch and i have never heard of an accident here yet. It gives the pensioners a purpose though. Last time, it was East Budliegh and the volunteers soon lost the will to stand outside all day.
I did get one of the letters as i was doing 34 mph. I try never to speed in these villages due to elderly and children anyway.
East Budliegh did happen to have a fatal crash a few months back in a 30 limit. Young man drove into a house wall at high speed so speeding does happen at times.

There have been some serious accidents on that hill out of NP Geoff one day a Cople of weeks back closed all morning ...can't see the point of training people to use a speed gun then dress them in high vis..

Vandals caused the lavatories in the local park to be closed; police patrols have nothing to go on.

Not funny Hampy, I was doing jury duty at the OLD BAILY when the IRA blew us up
, I lost quite a few weeks pay for that,quite a fiddle in them days

I was outside the Palace of Westminster in my Beetle when Airey Neave was assassinated by the IRA I was comming home from work was stuck in traffic jam until 10 o clock as total lockdown that night that sticks with me
