Painted my bike again

Painted it and gave it a new name. T120r is not a very good name is it. Cost me about 35 quid in paint and bits. Noticed my exhaust has cracked at the balance pipe so another job to do soon.

Will you lacquer it once polished, or does it not need it?

It is laquered Jim. You can leave it as a painted finish as it is non metallic but if you do polish it, it can soon rub through. the laquer also makes it appear much better quality. I normally laquer all my painting. Even the black on the frame tubes.

The cold weather has been a problem with this painting. Very slow to dry and i was putting coats on a bit too fast so it crazed up. Then i had to wait a bit and rub it back down with 400 paper and do it again. One of the little side panels has now crazed in the laquer but i can get that out without ruining the Tango decal. Then laquer it again . Can be done later when i have nothing to do.

I just get a lot of enjoyment out of paining bikes Bryan. There was nothing wrong with the old colour and i had it in purple for quite some time. I was just going to put on the gold colour parts i have already done but changed my mind and tried orange.
Now i am developing hands shaking, this keeps my hands in use as a bonus. Shaking the cans is now an easier job

. Bike repairs are now taking twice as long as they did just 2 years ago. Biggest problem has been dropping things. Having some tests in May to establish if i do have Parkinsons.

Tanks for that , I was genuinely curious on account i liked the bike the way it was.
I can and do empathise with things taking so much longer, and if like me forgetting how I did things too. Ten minutes working, 15 minutes sitting down resting

My final diagnosis will be in June when a couple of other things have been treated, and possibly, hopefully, maybe, eliminated.

1/4 5/16 Whitworth are the ones the garage pixies take. I keep buying them thinking that I will always find one. Wrong!

I always thought pixies were just pixies. It never occurred to me that there were Imperial and Metric ones. I hope they don't interbreed or I'll never find anything.

Geof, having been diagnosed with Parkinson's myself you are not alone if you get confirmation. Things taking longer and the hand tremors are just part of the problems but the medication is good once the correct dosage is sorted.I wish you luck and do not despair, I can still do most things but have to accept they take longer.

I enjoy it too but wait for the warm balmy days of mid summer so as it goes off quick.
The same goes for internal tank coating.
Good idea about the lacquering. Used a UV resisting to finish a cycle frame closed up in the shed to avoid dust particles. Read the instructions afterwards (why do we always do that) - DO NOT BREATH IN VAPOURS - highly dangerous

Yes always wear a mask..I sprayed a petrol tank many years ago with Cellulose used an adaptor on the vacuum cleaner after several coats I became quite ill and nearly passed out it was in my younger days Mum stuck me in bed and made me drink loads of milk???? ( hadn't swallowed it just breathing it)

My first job was with Gordon Russell Furniture at Broadway. The chaps in the polishing shop all had free milk provided by the company.

It used to be common for employers to provide milk to the spray painters. I had one painting session where i ended up like i was flying. Too many cellulose fumes.

I crawled into the nose of a Wessex sidecar once to do some glass fibre repairs. If my friend hadn't pulled me out I would have died from the fumes.

Confined Spaces

When I was an apprentice shipwright my yard was in the finishing stages of a submarine for the Aussies. As the apprentice, and the smallest, I was sent into the dark recesses of the conning tower where the nav light blisters were to be bolted on. My exciting job was to hold the nuts in place.
This space was so cramped and full of grease, that you were not allowed to spend more than 30 mins at any one time.

Thankfully the jobs did get more exciting and complex as my experience grew.
