Etiquette - O/T

I have always lived by the code that if say you are out in the shops and you are stood in someones way - and it is obvious to you, then you simply get out of the way without being asked, and apologise.

I was doing some shopping earlier on and at the bread isle there were this couple hogging the shelf that I needed to get to - they were standing there debating their shopping list and it was obvious that I wanted to get to the shelf, as they both clocked me standing there.

Next thing their mobile phone goes off, so they just stand there talking and ignoring me.

Now if that was me, I would have done as I said, moved say sorry etc.

Anyway after asking them to move "please" they did do but the look the guy gave me was a proper death stare, and these were not young people.

Maybee I have been wrong all these years and should always say excuse me, but why should I when someone is in your way and they know it.

Also had the curse of the mobile phone earlier in the week in the post office, bloke in front of me had loads of parcels to post - phone goes off so he has to answer it, probably a few mins on the phone.

When I got to the counter I remarked on this and the guy behind the counter says it happens all the time.

Think I am just at that age where things piss me off easily.

Rant over.......H2 time......

I'm afraid it's the way people are today I always used to hold the door open for people following ..not anymore ..and yes Mobiles should be banned in shops our Tesco's is terrible waited ages to get some milk two weeks ago in the end just pushed in and grabbed what I wanted ..I'm not in a hurry but don't want to listen about what little Toby did at lunchtime...Disgruntled of Woodbury

A bloke I used to work with many years also used to hold doors open for people.

At work if one of the "seniors" who thought they were above saying a simple "thankyou" breezed through a door he was holding open he would say in a very loud voice "I think the word is thankyou"

There are definitely some ignorant characters out there but I would never consider their attitudes as an excuse to let mine slip. I really believe if I, and the majority, did then we would be slipping into a dark place.

My pet hate at Tesco is people who hand the cashier a bundle of dog-eared money-off vouchers without any idea whether they have actually bought the items.

Then you get the ones at the checkout who spend ages scrolling on their phones through pics of their lunch or gurning grandkids looking for the discount voucher.

I just send a couple of footmen to Tescos.

A bit like the people that take their lottery tickets to the till to be scanned to see if they have won anything.

FFS part of the "fun" for me is checking my numbers on a Sunday morning to see if I have won anything.

If you cant be arsed to check the ticket then you dont deserve to win.........

I get people offering to get items out of low down areas in some shops. A sign i might be looking old !
I cant get down low very easily now. The body fails before the brain.

People around here are very polite, eg, I got to Coles too early( Their website said they would open at 7.00 a.m , the sign on the door said 9.00 a.m) so I was seated in my car near the door until they opened, by then there were a few dozen people standing at the door and no-one was cranky, as I got out of the car they motioned me to go first, I thanked them and went in.

I'm the opposite to Geoff always asked to reach the high shelves...I did find on my down under trips that everyone was courteous in shops and even on the road though warned that in certain areas it could be different but never found it so.Even way up top of Queensland when re-fueling the car didn't have to do anything but pay they refueld and even washed the screen ..perhaps it was just the outback garages..but like the olden days..

I was in Aldi today when a 'KAREN' was talking on one of those mike type phones we could hear her 3 miles away telling everybody her reasons for not accepting a job as it was not suitable for her lifestyle as a teacher. pompous cow

Australia so different, so polite everywhere, unless you ask for a beer in a licensed premises in the "Arvo" as they call it.
The temperature drops like a stone and everyone in the place stares at you like you are a known pedophile.
(Perth - Many times).

Not a fan of Perth rellies live there was not impressed ĺiked the city but thats about it prefer the east coast fortunate friends and rellies that side...Crockadail creek..and Towsville ..

My daughter in law told me I was wrong to say "you're welcome" when I held a door open for a woman who remained silent. She told me if you are happy to hold the door do so without expecting reward 🙂
