Electric powered tools - completley O/T

Got fed up with my dis obident Homelite strimmer yesterday - sometimes starts, sometimes not, sometimes revs out sometimes does not - you get the picture.

Took the plunge today and bought a fairly cheap - but really good reviews from Screwfix battery powered one.

After charging it I have just been out and done all the lawn edges.

Brilliant, press the button and away it goes, really light and easy to manage.

No more huffing / puffing cursing because it wont start.

More time for riding bikes

Who needs a signature anyway......

I have a Flymo Strimmer and Flymo mower they are nearly twenty years old now they are Mains which I don't have trouble with the spool on the srimmer disintegrated last year a new unit pus a spool of line cost 15 quid I use mower for the upper smaller lawn and a Petrol mower for the main lawn ..which is quite big ...been working in the Garden yesterday and today..

Ryobi one units are pretty good with one battery fitting all their tools. I have 4 drills and 6 batteries and the batteries still charge even after 10 years of use and recharging. Replacement batteries are best if bought as 5 amp units.

If you can stick with one brand then it's really economic as the battery cost is usually the big issue and you can swap them between tools. I try to invest in DeWalt. The XR Lithium batteries are really good. I used to use a 2 stroke hedge trimmer which I've now replaced with a DeWalt XR item and I'm very impressed with it.

Great if it works. With G-Tech it doesn't. When they discontinue a line you're in trouble. If the battery fails they don't keep spares and seemingly don't allow for anyone else to make them under licence. I have £300+ value of their product and two very weak batteries

As I said no problems with mains power after all you need it to charge batteries so the only thing you are objecting to is a power cable ..

There is one problem Dave and that is the nut, me, holding the tool. Having sliced through the mains cable twice the family decided I was not to be trusted with tools beyond my comprehension!

I will admit that I did it once with a hedge trimmer fortunately had an overload plug ..the only tool I have is a Bosch electric screwdriver battery obviously in the tool as no replacement have had that nearly fifteen years now ..

Den also has a battery powered bicycle. The wire on his mains powered one pulled him off.

G-tech what an absolutely crappy company, as said no back up when battery fails none available. They want you to buy a later model and bin the working old stuff. I have taken the battery pack apart and they are Ni-Cads so I will be rebuilding it. They don't believe in brand loyalty.

When I contacted them they offered me a 10% discount on their current model. I pointed out to them that as they were currently offering 20% in their television advert I didn't consider that to be much of an offer and declined saying I would never consider purchasing anything from them again and neither would I recommend them.

Wish I could find a strimmer that the cutting blades or string don't snap. Never found one yet.

It can be a bugger but found that the more you pay in the garden centre usually lasts longer I have used Grandfather clock gut line very expensive it was great but as I say expensive ..

2.5mm line lasts well, but the spool must be made to accept that size or it won`t feed out when bumped on the ground.
