Spirit of the 60s run this Sunday
Posted by Andy C on May 4, 2022, 8:41 am
I mentioned earlier about the run that starts at Yeovil and goes to Bicton Gardens - arrive there at about mid day and depart again at 13:00 this Sunday.
I may not be going as I was going to take the H2 which has developed an oil pump problem - might have it fixed for the weekend, depends on whether what I think is wrong with it is actually the problem.
None of my other bikes qualify because of their age so I might just go to the start at Yeovil on one of them and have an oggle at the bikes, and then I may or may not tag along to Bicton.
Anyway thought I would mention the run as I know TUD lives nearby, and perhaps Geoff might come along to Bicton.
The H2 issue only became aparrent when I noticed bubbles in the main bearing oil lines its a long story but I pulled everything apart, cleared out the check valves, rebuilt the oil lines only to find that the pump is pulling air from somewhere.
The most likley cuplrit is a solitary worn oil seal that is hard to source but have managed to track one down - just waiting for it to turn up.
All the other seals are immersed in oil so unlikley to be those.
Hopefully new seal will arrive before the weekend, and as I say may or may not fix it, clearly cannot ride it until I have it fixed.
It does concern me how long the pump has been pulling air, the engine still sounds the same as it ever did - like a tin of nails, so hopefully no damage as enough oil was hopefully getting through to stop any major damage - there are 4 oil lines in total but they would all have had air and oil in them, only the main bearing lines are see through.
I dont thrash the thing so the engine is not really that stressed, and it was still sending some smoke out the back so clearly there was some oil getting through but not as much as Kawasaki intended.Who needs a signature anyway......
I am nervous about doing that, as there seems to be divided opinion as to whether you can safley use premix or not, something to do with the design of the bottom end.
Some say it is a complete no no. others say OK, then again I think the drag guys use premix in their bikes, but they may also do some bottom end mods.
I would also have to make up a blanking plate for the oil pump drive - but that is no big deal in the overal scheme of things. Who needs a signature anyway......
The weather seem to be good on that day..I will be at the end of my drive hopefully taking pictures then later by car to Bicton unfortunately havnt been well this week bloody Sepsis takes months or even years to get over..hoping I'm OK for daughters wedding the end of the month..Tonupdave..T.U.D.
