Don't always trust friends

My number two race bike has had a overheating problem ever since I bought it from a friend. It is fitted with nice new alloy radiators and everything seems ok and I was getting worried I had a head gasket issue. At Brands this weekend I had to come in one lap from the end when the temprature guage went into the red. Problem is once the rad gets that hot it blows water into the header tank which is over the back wheel and can get onto the rear tyre. I have fitted a new thermostat as Honda ones can be a bit iffy. I thought I had cured the problem and was busy discusing this with other riders when a guy walked over and pointed to the filler cap. He then told me that the chinese alloy rads I have fitted are very good but what ever you do do not use the filler cap supplied with it. Turns out the caps should set to release at 1.1 bar of pressure and the chinese one release at 0.8 bar so release too early and blows the water into the header tank. I have since searched more on the internet and found a 1.5 bar cap that I should be using so seems like I have found the problem. When I asked my friend if he had raced with these radiators on he said yes. I then asked him if he had a overheating problem to which he replied yes that's why I fitted and extra catch bottle to the breather on the header tank. I now have an ex friend after I did tell him what I thought of him not telling me and did he not realise that I could have been badly injured had the rear wheel let go. Can't believe someone would just mask the problem instead of solving it. So glad I met the helpful guy at Brands and today I placed the order for the correct racing rad cap. Oh well we live and learn and when it comes to motorcycles don't trust anyone.

Thats not nice..the only nasty I came across in racing I was given free oil from an oil rep to try on my bike it was the new Visco Static of course wrecked the engine and cause an expensive rebuild ..only straight oils in air cooled engines back then as built to different tolerances as the temperature is always fluctuating not like water cooling..but partially my fault for accepting free oil to try out

Well at least you got to the root of the problem, and did not end up injured, and you have reduced your christmas card list by 1 - think of the money you will save

Who needs a signature anyway......

Trust among friends? Remember who your friends are Jerry, that is most important in a wll balanced and well lived life. Oh yes...I still have that photo. LOL.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

Make sure you get the negative next time Jerry. Assuming Mr Mad's box brownie produces negatives of course...
