New Toy too ... well

Back in November I ordered a brand new BMW F750GS in a nice shade of blacl with a low seat and not too much electronics. Due for delivery April 1st but delayed as everything is right now.

It arrived in the dealers on Tuesday - When do I get to pick it up... Well they booked it in the workshop for the PDI on May 31st! I thought all they had to do was count the wheels and screw a number plate on it, buts its a 2 week wait. I've sold the F650 now of course.

Around 25 miles after setting off from London en route to a camping rally near Milan a pal's bike packed up. It wasn't possible to fix it soon enough so next morning she bought a brand new Bonneville and set off for the ferry hoping to catch us up on our old AMC bikes. It needed a first service at 400 miles so I phoned and arranged for it to be done at a Triumph ad Harley dealer, AMR Motos near Vittel (a 425 miles run) who said it would only take about 45 minutes to do as it only involved a visual once-over, tightness check, an oil change and valve clearance check.
When we arrived he said he wouldn't be able to do it for three days. What a row ensued for over an hour until his rather attractive wife joined in and told him to do it now for these interesting English adventurers. He did, sheepishly, probably aware that his matrimonial benefits could be at risk.

Yes, Chazzy, it was Luky. She didn't like going round corners or through tunnels which was a bit of an issue in the mountains but fair play, she had some determination getting a new bike and setting off again within 24hrs.

To cut a long and in retrospect a rather hilarious story short, after the bloody great row at the dealers we set off again but 5 miles down the road 80% of Thrifty Peter's P11 wiring burnt out (shorted Zener, loads of smoke, so forth). I had to ride back to the arsey dealer with my tail between my legs to buy some wire. The awkward Frog insisted that he could only let me have one 15 metre roll of blue which was just enough. We rewired it by cutting the connectors off the melted wires leaving short tails which we twisted to the new wires and taped them up, then successfully carried on to Milan and back home. Just under 2,000 miles in all.

That's a BMW dealer to avoid, then. Also, the last new BMW I bought, the PDI was actually done at the UK warehouse/shipping centre BEFORE it was delivered to the dealer.

I grumped at them - they have it down to 1 week wait.
