Latest Project

Arrived with me today, should be great for pottering around the minor roads and back lanes around here - not really a touring bike !!

Always fancied one of these - this one came up so decided to buy it.

Fresh from Ohio - via a container ship.

Who needs a signature anyway......

I had a DT175MX: most smiles per mile/£ of any bike ice owned.

Not much fettling to do there ? Fresh tyres, a "once over" and thence to MoT ?

Mind you, you do have differnt ideas to most with petrol getting up towards £2 a litre ...

That is one good looking bike! And I'm ever so slightly envious. But it is most definitely not for "pottering around the minor roads and back lanes around here" !!! Its for rip-snorting bare-chested neighbour-irritating hooliganism of the highest order and nothing less. I expect you to be in receipt of a restraining order as soon as the local authorities can trace you. If not questions appertaining to your masculine credentials will be asked!

TBH they aren't much faster than the 125's and upwards. The smaller engined DT's are much lighter and smaller, and that offsets the small power increase. They feel fast because of the racket they make which is exciting. I think the 185/175 is the sweet spot for stroker trail bikes of the 70's and I've ridden most of them. I think the bike Andy has bought is a real looker. I keep looking at TS250 suzuki trail bikes but in my heart I know I couldn't live with it. I guess if I was a collector I'd snap up a few of them. I'll keep those memories of 70's strokers in the summer of 76 in the past.

Thanks for the positive comments, on the face of it there is very little to do apart from give it a once over.

It has an intrestsing back story, the guy in Ohio that it was bought from aparrently has loads - i.e. hundreds of bikes.

He buys them gets bored with them then buys another so he has loads of bikes which he rides every once in a while, aparrently he runs them all in turn.

That is why it is a one owner bike with only 1700 miles on it - the engine certainly sounds like it is correct, but who knows.

To be honest fuel consumption never came into the equation I just fancied one of these, this one came up and was too good to miss.

Bare chested hooligan ripping up the neighbourhood - I'll think on that...........

Yeah Wills comments brought seeds of doubt to my mind. Maybe I’ll just look for a BSA bantam.

From what I've heard, it's impossible to potter on a DT400! lovely bike though...

Starting giving it a once over - and have decided not to carry out any "restoration" aside from new tyres, brake shoes, oils, lubricate cables etc.

It would be a shame to earase the few minor scars it has aquired during it's lifetime - paintwork is generally pretty good, as are the few bits of chrome.

Wheel rims and spokes are pretty near as they left the factory.

It would definatley be a shame to "restore" it to look like a new bike, even though it would probably not take that much effort.

Who needs a signature anyway......
