Tested AutoAid Today...

Loud pop followed by gradual lack of stability on A449 south west of Ledbury.
Called AutoAid at about 4.15pm - flatbed truck from Caldicott Recovery arrived at about 5.15pm, got us home (South of Evesham) at about 6.15pm.
9 out of 10 for service and efficiency.

1 hour wait is quite good for any recovery. Nice vto know they work well

Thats pretty quick & efficient. Caldicot recovery is a local-ish firm that seem to have a large share if the recovery contracts hereabouts.....if not a monopoly!

I was on the A449 into Ledbury this morning. It was the first journey I've made without a puncture kit in ages = I was taking the bike to be serviced & had remover the luggage. Along with a first aid kit its part of the essential stuff I always carry.

Seems like a pretty good response time - what was that in the tyre by the way?

I haven't worked out what it is yet - seems to be composite blue and red plastic with some shiny metal as well.
Tyre is off, and just collecting quotes for a new one - £186 fitted is the only price I've got so far - ouch!

Protyre supplied my previous set of Michelin Annakee Adventure, but the local(ish) Gloucester branch don't currently have a fitter to do motorcycle tyres. I may get a supply-only quote from them but they are a fifty mile round trip away!

Edit - just found the Worcester branch could fit tomorrow for £158.32...

New tyre fitted by ProTyre Worcester yesterday -£158

This was the culprit - metal case like a battery but not sure what it is - says FIZZY on it. £2 coin for scale:
