Ebay security

I always used to be able to log into E Bay with username & password, every time I log in now E Bay insists on sending me a txt message to verify it is me.

Is it just me or have E Bay changed their security policy ?

Who needs a signature anyway......

Seems everybody's doing it these days. Some ask if they/you can trust the computer you're using. If you say yes you won't be asked again. Unless of course you clear your cookies, then they start again.

Very odd as I have not signed up for 2 level authentication, wonder of perhaps someone has been trying to access my account and E Bay have done it to protect it.

I get a text message sometimes. I also get bank texts if big payments are going out. Not a bad idea.

Cant disagree it's not a bad idea, it's just that I aone of those people who dont live my life on my mobile phone, os it is just annoying to have to get my phone, switch it on every time I want to use E Bay.

My computers are on the first floor and my mobile is usually left downstairs. keeps me excercised running the stairs though. I have had a few days trying to get a covid test for going on a ship. Nearly all the system is dependant on a smart phone and i do not have one. Eventually found a chemist who would do the witnessed test and send the documents off. This covid stuff is getting daft now. The Doctor sent me to the seafront car park for a test but all the test centres have long gone. I am cancelling my 35 night cruise to the USA area but doing Europe next week. I am also non dependent on mobile phones but holiday companies seem to think everyone has an i-phone. I just have a pay as you go basic phone that calls people if i need to.

Pay the extra for asmart phone mines a Samsung pay as you go it picks up the Internet everything I want costs a few pence a week I put forty pounds on the beginning of the year when in hospital still have£33.20p ..on it the only costs will be roaming charges ..I never use the P/C ..there's no contracts either typing this on it and send photos ..wouldn't be without also have tracking at no cost..

Yes Dave, it suits millions of users but sometimes, i want to be out of contact. I use it just as an emergency device if i broke down out on my bike. Kids and grandchildren phone up if they are needing something but i rarely call anyone on it. I am stuck in the days when we had no phones. I grew up with no heating and a bath once a week if i was lucky.My technology now is a big TV and 2 largish computers and a photoprinter. Funny to watch the little Grandchildren navigating smart phones and i would need to read a book to switch one on.
When i was working, i installed a lot of computer wiring but still had no computer of my own. Eventually, i had to get an email address to use the library. I am a bit slow to change now.

With the tracking app if you have it on your phone and have an Accident and can't operate the phone your partner or Better half can track you to your exact location within yards

All this reliance on assuming everyone is comfortable online is not good. I live in an area with poor mobile signal and very slow broadband. Got to do a speed awareness course soon, no classrooms operating so will have to be on "Zoom". What happens if I fail to connect and navigate around on the day ?

The last exam course i did in about 2008 required the exam to be on a computer. I had just managed to work one at that time.
Bear in mind that when i did an apprenticeship, we had slide rules, no calculator and a log tables book. I wonder how many young workers would be able to work things out without a calculator now
