Wassell carbs

Wassell Evolution concentric 'copy' - anyone used one?

I've decided that after 19 years in my custody my AJS deserves a new carb. But I'm baulking at paying north of £200 for an Amal Premier, being the only model now available for a R930.

When I had my old 612 Enfield I fitted one of the "Premier" ones to it, and never could get it to run properly.

I fettled the old one and that worked better.

Ended up selling the premier on E-Bay at a loss.

So I am not convinced about the quality of these new Wassal carbs.

Just my 2p.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Premier carburettors are not a Wassell product.

Yes, had one on my BSA thunderbolt, and prior to that on my Mk3 interstate the interstate was transformed by them when going into a roundabout for example close throttle on entry and the gently re open it to assist exiting with the original carbs the bike would cough before picking up (very disconcerting) then accelerate normally the wassel carbs transformed the bike. never had any problems with them.

The Wassel may last a long time if you are not a high mileage user. The Premier has the hardened slide and mine is showing no wear. Previous Amal old style metal lasted about 10,000 miles. I expect the Wassel will also do the 10,000 miles.
My Premier pair is perfect and no problems at all.

Are Wassell carburettor throttle slides not coated or hardened?

TT, i notice that they are using the hard coated slide now. I would say they would be very good if the same type as my Premier coating. Well worth giving the Wassel a try

A mate has one on his bike and he said it's great. I understand there were some quality issues in their early days regarding a drilling.
