Can anyone ID this mystery object?

Found in dad's garage. About a foot long, sounds metallic although not ferrous and where marked looks more like some composite material. I am stumped! Rubber feet on the flattened bottom.

Looks like it might be copper, so perhaps some kind of old plumbing joint to join pipes and merge them into a water cylinder vial the oval shaped cutout?

All soldered joints of course.

Who needs a signature anyway......

I bet your Dad didn't know what it is either but thought he'd keep it because it might come in handy one day

I think its a pressurised air pipe as used in supermarkets to move cash around. That one may deliver bananas to the bosses upstairs.

I agree, department stores in Brisbane used to have that type of carrier to send the money paid by a customer to a cashier upstairs(launching it by pulling on a rope) who would return it containing the change and the receipt.
This system kept all the money in one place, eliminating the need for a lot of cash registers around the store.

That's the DD Lamson pneumatic system. Problem here is that there are no seals on that item, so the central system vacuum wouldn't pull the carrier through, plus the money (usually change in those days) had no way of being contained in that thing. The real items had a screw top to contain the money inside.

Probably just a pipe fitting that some one has made into an ash tray by cutting out an oval section and fitting rubber feet
