Yea that one was assembled wrong after the ratchet mechanism failed and it almost destroyed the mechanism ..I and rfreinds from the BHI were inpecing the movement when we noticed that one of the strike fly was assembled upside down ..

Late 1600s to 1700s standard striking movement on display in Saltash Church.. pic over 20 years ago ..I have aged the movement hasnt

delete duplicates

My first Clock restoration German Alarm Clock c1890.bought at Portabello Market for £3.00 .
In 67..the escapement was missing so had to make a replacement..
The Longcase clock by Robert Buller of Abingdon c 1720. restored nine years ago. ( the movement is very similar to my pic of the church Clock a posted frame movement not it only had a single hand no minutes ..strikes the hour on a large cast bell..Oak case with original spun glass..

My Dad used to love striking clocks. He was a Butcher by trade but his hobby was restoring what would seem hopeless cases of clocks and watches. We had a Grandfather clock in the hall that used to strike on the quarter as well as the hour. Every night when they went to bed my Mother would stop the pendulum, every morning my Father used to re-start it. She hated the striking, he couldn't abide a striking clock that didn't strike. Somehow the had many happy years together.

I grew up in a house with a long case clock striking every hour. Once someone came to stay and was kept awake by it so stopped it. Result? Myself & all the family woke up 'coz it wasn't striking!

what used to drive her even more bonkers was when we visited friends or relatives and Dad found out the clock on the mantelpiece wasn't showing the right time or had stopped, he just couldn't resist the challenge and invariably by the time we left it was correct or sometimes he took it home with him to sort out. Drove her mad but as I said they were happy.

Yea must admit I'm like that have two Longcase clocks one strikes the one in my pic is a 30 hour striking clock but have the strike stopped A because its so noisy B it lengthens the time running to two three days....I bought my two kids an American Dial clocks each Daughter has hers hanging on the wall not working my sons is still in the loft as has no room on the walls as he has his guitar collection on the walls..
