38 Triumph Speed Tween

Is that rod near the horn a type of prop stand or protection from Harley riders?

It is a prop stand. "Essway" if vintage "Vintele" if a modern repro. I have one to fit on my BSA Sloper.

Sloper runs again.

Pre-WW2, few Americans knew of the better motorcycles made in GB ...

Oz was the largest importer of British-made motorcycles so the rod was likely for fending off the Oz wildlife, most of which seems to want to kill humans even when it can't eat them.
