All true.

But in return for the sore wrists and bum, you looked SO DAMN COOL going down the street!

I don't know, maybe some people liked them and didn't get sore.

AJS made bikes like that so that fat riders were unable to race. I would love to have a short ride on one but would not be able to change gear on such a low bike

Nothing there designed for use on the road, only the race track. Lovely 7R.
