Base layers as motorcycle clothing.

I've never owned or worn a base layer. These have been advertised widely in the UK motorcycle press recently -

Has anyone any ideas or opinions about base layers in general, or this one in particular? I'm tired of wearing 7 layers everyday.

I use a RST pro series long sleeved under garment. I use it in the winter under a thermal shirt and seems to work for me. I also use it under my race leathers and also works the other way by keeping you cool.Seen a lot of heated tops around with their own built in battery. Not too bad prices so was thinking of trying one of those next.

I wear a base layer with a mid-layer. This combination keeps me warm without the restrictive bulk of more trad winter garments. I have a selection. Cheap ones from Lidl which were good value for money, luxury Merino wool ones which are extraordinarily comfortable & effective, and finally one of those Zerofit base layers which is the warmest by a significant margin and IMHO worth the money. If you're only going to buy one get a Zerofit but be prepared for it to be too warm in some situations!

I use a thermal long sleeve vest which cost around 5 pounds. Then i bought a more expensive one called a base layer and it had all sorts of vents and special materials. Both keep me warm the same amount. So, i just wear the cheap thermal vest and any other coat or jumper in the wardrobe and add a lined leather jacket. However, i would not be out in 0 degree weather

I would have given up motorcycles if I had to wear those layers of clothing.

Following an earlier mention of Zerofit and having read the advertising blurb, one thing I noticed was that they're flippin' expensive. However, as Father Christmas had no idea what to put in my stocking I wrote him a note asking for a Zerofit base layer which, luckily for me, he was able to provide. Best present I've had for some considerable time - I've been wearing it throughout the recent v. cold spell and it's fantastic. It feels warm to the skin as soon as you put it on, almost as though it has heating elements embedded in it. Thoroughly recommended.

This is all looking very promising, so I've ordered one. As Al has pointed out, at £55 it isn't cheap but at least there's no postal charge. (Not for the customer, anyway.) Delivery time is advertised as 1 to 2 days.

I emailed them to check and received this reply:

"Good Afternoon Mr B

Thank you for your email, all the products are designed and manufactured in Japan, however for the European market the ultimate and move are made in China.

We can of course get these products for you from our Japanese factory (made in Japan) but the price of the garments would be higher.

It's obvious that more and more people are questioning why they should send money to a regime that wants domination and destruction of the West, and runs a slave empire to accomplish it.

And it's becoming obvious that more and more companies are recognizing that fact, because they will hide and quibble about where their products are made. You really have to "dig" sometimes to find that out, because they're ashamed of it.

HOWEVER, it's getting easier now to find not-made-in-China things ... For about two years, the Chinese were the only ones supplying light bulbs, but now the Hungarians have retooled to produce them, and I can buy their bulbs even in discount stores. Even children's clothes now are mainly made in Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Honduras, etc.

Here's hoping it continues to get better ....
